Arrest made after man breaks into home and 'touches himself inappropriately' in Burscough

Detectives investigating after a man broke into a home and "indecently exposed himself" in Burscough have made an arrest.

Police were called to reports of a break-in at an address in New Lane at around 1.25am on Monday, February 22.

Officers discovered a man had entered the address but left after being disturbed.

However, police said a short time later he was seen "touching himself inappropriately" outside the same address.

Today (February 23), officers confirmed a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.

The man, of no fixed address, is in custody for questioning.

Det Insp Pete Reil, of South CID, said: "While we have made an arrest our investigation is still ongoing and I would continue to appeal to anyone who has any information to get in touch.

The victims continue to be supported by officers.
