Countdown is on to Churchtown festival for new queen Isobel
The annual festival returns on Saturday May 27 and the procession will leave Kirkland Memorial Hall field to St Helen’s Church where Rev Andrew Wilkinson will give a short service before returning to the field for his daughter Isobel’s crowning.
The 11-year-old said she is looking forward to proudly representing the village.

Hide AdYear 6 pupil Isobel is currently studying for Grade Two piano and enjoyed fundraising with her school as well as having a go at speaking French on holiday with her family.
In her spare time the animal lover also enjoys ice skating, climbing and caring for her pets a hamster called Nibbles, budgies named Kiwi and Dougie and a chicken called Bun Bun
Isobel will line up for the 1pm procession with her retinue, which this year includes Maddy and Ellie Cornall, Chrissie Tripney, Harriet Bowden, Grace Darbyshire, Leah Melling, Tessa Higginson, Eva Wright, Isobel Doddrell and William Darbyshire.
Festival organisers say preparations are well under way for the event, which will this year have a 1970’s theme.

The festival will be followed with a disco in the evening with a fish and chip supper.
