Commissioner quizzed over crime concerns

Members of Adlington and Anderton Parish Council will raise concerns to Clive Grunshaw about policing in the village after Adlington police station was closed down last year.

The building has since been dormant. Mr Grunshaw is attending the meeting at the request of the council.

Dan Croft, town mayor of Adlington, said: “Mr Grunshaw is coming to have a general chat and we don’t have any particular demands, his office said he was available and it’s the first time he’ll visit us since he’s been in the role.

“We have a general feeling that crime has increased in the village, it’s not major things and we don’t want to scare people about coming to Adlington.

“We just have general concerns about things going on in the village and we would like to allow the public and ourselves to chat with Mr Grunshaw.”

Mr Grunshaw has been questioned in the past about the policing in Adlington.

Concerns had been raised about cutbacks – highlighted by Police Community Support Officers’ use of bicycles to do their jobs.

And police had reported a dramatic increase in crime throughout the area.

County and ward councillor for Heath Charnock Kim Snape, wrote to Mr Grunshaw raising her concerns about the state of policing in the area.

She said: “We are all pleased he is coming and we hope for a really good turn out at the meeting. I’ve raised concerns before and hopefully answers can be provided at the time.”

The meeting starts at 7.15pm and it will be held at the Community Centre, in Railway Road, Adlington.
