Clitheroe man targeted in blackmail scam as fraudsters demand £1,100, police warn
Lancashire Police are warning residents about a blackmail scam targeting men who have attempted to arrange services through online classified adverts.
Officers said criminals have contacted victims demanding money and threatening to disclose sensitive information to family members if payments are not made.
In one reported case in Clitheroe, a man received several messages and phone calls demanding he transfer £1,100 in multiple transactions to different bank accounts.

The fraudsters warned that if he refused, personal information would be shared with his loved ones.
They also claimed police would not be able to protect him, which officers say is “clearly not the case”.
Lancashire Police confirmed safeguarding measures have now been put in place for the victim.
A spokesperson for the force urged anyone receiving similar communication not to engage with the fraudsters.
Instead, residents should report the matter by calling 101 and asking to report blackmail.
Police are reminding the public that officers can provide support and advice, and that victims of blackmail should not feel pressured into making payments.
