The former Liberty X star is one of 12 finalists hoping to impress the all-star coaching panel of will.i.am, Paloma Faith, Boy George and Ricky Wilson and the voting public.

Viewers of the BBC One talent series have watched the Chorley-born singer, a member of Wilson’s team, struggle with self-confidence on occasion.

“It was only me stopping myself by letting negative thoughts get in my head,” he said.

“But with all the support I’ve got, I just feel like I’ve just got to go out there and enjoy myself. I don’t want to look back at the whole thing, if I get knocked out on Saturday, and think I was stressed out the whole way through it.”

Liberty X’s Just A Little won a Brit award for best British single in 2003. The five-piece enjoyed several more hits before calling it a day in 2007.

Simm, 35, released an album in 2008, but he experienced commercial failure as a soloist.

“I know there are some who think singers who’ve been pop stars shouldn’t be in the competition so I was expecting a bit of a backlash, but it didn’t come, and I realised people were rooting for me.

“I just want to enjoy myself. I feel like I’ve got people in my corner.”

Essex-born Lydia Lucy, a member of Team Will, previously attempted to find music stardom on Simon Cowell’s The X Factor.

Lucy was one of the first victims of the twist on musical chairs - she lost her seat and missed out on a place in the Judges’ Houses round.

“I was absolutely heartbroken when I got swapped on The X Factor, but it made me more determined,” she said ahead of the live shows.

“Getting to this stage on The Voice is a massive opportunity for me. I just hope I can do everyone proud.”

Viewers will vote on the remaining eight finalists to determine who remains in the competition and who goes home.

Bookmakers have made teenager Cody Frost, a member of Boy George’s team, the favourite to be crowned winner overall.

Frost said she was aware of the news, but she is taking it one step at a time.

“I can only be as good as I am,” she stated. “There’s no pressure in the sense that I can only get as good as George can help me be.”

On the same subject, Lucy paid tribute to her competitors.

“Everyone is unique in their artistry,” she said. “There’s a few people that the public love, but all I can do is be me. I’ve had so much support.”

Jordan Gray, who was born male and now lives as a female, has been unwell with a virus this week.

Gray’s coach Faith said she expected the Essex resident would be well enough to perform.

The other finalists are: Chloe Castro, Lauren Lapsley-Browne, Heather Cameron-Hayes, Harry Fisher, Vangelis, Jolan, Beth Morris and Lyrickal.

:: The Voice is broadcast at 7pm on BBC One.
