Already broadcasting to patients 24 hours a day at Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital, the station will now be accessible online for people to tune in outside the hospital grounds.

Jon Taylor, station chairman, who has worked at the station for 25 years, said this is a ‘big step’ for the team, which is run by more than 20 volunteers.

Jon said: “We have been broadcasting to the patients for 48 years but we will be going live across the internet so people outside the hospital and all over the world will be able to listen.

“We are all looking forward to it because there has been a lot of hard work been put into it.

“This is a big step for our station and as volunteers we are all very excited for the big event for the station.

“And it will mean people will be able to request songs outside the hospital for their loved ones who are inside.”

The internet stream will officially launch after a countdown at 6.59pm tonight.
