Changes to flats plan at former Preston post office passed

Developers set to convert a former Royal Mail sorting office on West Cliff, Preston, into luxury flats have been granted planning permission for a set of design tweaks.

The original plans were approved earlier this year but several changes - including increasing the height of a dormer extension and the addition of a roof garden - meant the bid had to return to the planning committee.

Elected members unanimously approved the plans for the Grade II listed building, which will result in 31 apartments. The planning report reads: “The proposed development would bring a vacant listed building back into use. The design and the amendments are considered to be acceptable and would preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the building and its setting within the Fishergate Hill Conservation Area.”

Developers Heaton Group had previously told the Lancashire Post: “We are looking forward to being part of the city’s renaissance and are proud to be restoring such a notable historic building.”
