Cars blocking back streets in East Lancashire hit with fines as police warn tow trucks could follow

Drivers who blocked back streets in West Craven have been hit with fines after police carried out targeted enforcement - and officers have warned vehicles could be removed if the problem continues.

Neighbourhood officers patrolled the area following complaints about obstructive parking and speeding, issuing several fixed penalty notices to vehicles causing access problems.

Police said blocked back streets can prevent emergency services from reaching homes and create difficulties for residents and deliveries.

While officers acknowledged limited on-street parking is a challenge, they warned enforcement will continue and vehicles may be towed if obstructions persist.

A spokesperson said: “Should vehicles continue to block the back streets, we will look to have them removed.”

During the same operation, officers also carried out speed checks after concerns were raised about fast-moving traffic.

Police said none of the vehicles stopped were found to be exceeding the limit.

They added that most back streets were clear of obstructions, which officers welcomed, and urged drivers to continue parking considerately and obeying speed limits.

Further enforcement is expected in the near future.
