Car stopped in Preston after passengers spotted holding unsecured table and chairs on roof

Police officers in Preston were left stunned after stopping a car carrying a table and chair balanced on its roof, held in place by the occupants’ hands through the windows.

The unusual scene was spotted by a Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officer who pulled over a Vauxhall Astra after noticing the items were not secured.

Instead, both men inside the vehicle were seen leaning an arm out of each front window in an attempt to hold the furniture steady while the car was being driven.

The setup posed a serious risk to other road users, with unsecured loads capable of falling into traffic or creating sudden hazards at speed.

The driver was reported for a number of offences.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “An RPU officer in Preston was shocked to see this Astra with a table and chair on the roof, not secure.

“Well, I say not secure, both chaps on board had one hand out of each front window holding it in place.

“The driver was reported for a number of offences.”
