A consultation is underway on proposals to close Chorley Crown Post Office and replace it with counters at WHSmith.

But concerns have been raised, including the size of the shop and the lack of parking.

Chorley’s MP Lindsay Hoyle has met Post Office bosses, along with Chorley Council leader Coun Alistair Bradley.

Mr Hoyle said: “We gave them our views and quite strongly said that moving into a store that size we don’t think is the best thing to do. In fact we think it’s the worst thing to do.

“We don’t think the store lends itself and we don’t think it’s the way forward.”

Mr Hoyle will invite Post Office bosses to visit Chorley to look at other locations.

He said: “We are saying they should come to Chorley and look at the accommodation and see what they can do.

“There are alternative places that might be better.”

A Post Office spokesman said: “We have of course visited Chorley many times in drawing up proposals and during the consultation we will pleased to continue to meet with the MP and to meet with other representatives from the community to discuss concerns.

“The public consultation is important so that we can understand local concerns or issues and take them into account as we look to maintaining our services in Chorley into the future.”
