Banny’s, which already operates a successful fish and chip restuarant and takeaway at the Boundary Mill site at the end of the M65 in Colne, will open its drive-thru chippy in Trafalgar Street, Burnley, on June 1st.

Situated close to the University Technical College and the On The Banks development of the Weavers’ Triangle, the £1m. new chip shop will be rubbing shoulders with a Pizza Hut, McDonalds, KFC and Subway.

And the ‘drive thru’ concept coming to East Lancashire will join the likes of existing drive thru chippies such as the Empire, in Outwood, Wakefield, believed to be the UK’s first drive-thru chippy, opening to a media fanfare in 1995, and Big John’s, in Birmingham.

And store bosses have been recruiting both full and part-time staff to man the new eatery which will open between 7-30am (with a breakfast menu served until 11am) and 9pm.

Drive-thru chippy ... great idea or not? Are there too many take-aways in Trafalgar Street or do we need even more?
