Jo has been in the role on an interim basis since last August, when Phil Halsall was suspended. Mr Halsall later quit the role.

The council went out to recruit a permanent appointee at the beginning of January.

Leader of the council County Coun Jennifer Mein said: “We had an excellent field of candidates and it is testament to Jo’s considerable knowledge and experience that she has got the job on a permanent basis.”

Jo added: “I’m extremely proud to have been appointed.”

The decision to appoint Ms Turton was approved by the meeting of the Full Council yesterday afternoon, accepting the recommendation of the council’s Employment Committee.
