In most years Archdeacons carry out ‘Visitations’ but from time to time, however, a Bishop will personally carry out a Visitation and Bishop Julian wanted to do it in his first year.

Services have already been held in Preston and Chorley and tomorrow there will be a service at Lancaster St Mary.

The visitation service held recently at Blackburn Cathedral had an additional special element.

It was the first time that the clergy and wardens of the parishes which have newly become part of Blackburn Diocese had formally gathered at the Cathedral.

As their clergy and wardens were called forward, they were greeted with a standing ovation.
