Bishop enjoys visit to Germany

Lancashire’s Bishop has been on a visit to Germany to mark reunification.

The Rt Rev Julian Henderson and his wife Heather joined dignitaries from Braunschweig, which is twinned with Blackburn Diocese which includes Blackpool and the Fylde coast, for a number of special events including a reunification anniversary service held on the old border between East and West Germany.

They were hosted by Dr Christoph Meyns, Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braunschweig.

Bishop Julian also attended Harvest Festival celebrations at Braunschweig Cathedral where he address ed the congregation.

He said: “A varied programme took us first to the symbolic and moving Marianborg Border crossing Gate for a 25th anniversary service celebrating the reunification of East and West Germany.

“We then visited Blackenburg to see how mission and ministry happens in the old East Germany.

“Sunday morning was a harvest service in the Cathedral and the afternoon was spent in the old and beautiful town of Goslar. And at every stage we were treated to generous hospitality.”
