The 19-week-old kitten featured in the Post after owner Julie Tattler of Noah’s Ark Rescue and Sanctuary in Tarleton revealed she was desperate to find a solution to the mystery of skin growing over Betty’s mouth.

Despite four operations to “tear” the skin it keeps growing back, preventing Betty feeding properly and putting her at risk of choking.

Julie had hoped TV’s Supervet Dr Noel Fitzpatrick might be able to help.

Now she is back from seeing a specialist who believes he can help Betty.

A delighted and relieved Julie posted on Betty’s own Facebook page: “Today has brought new hope, we are absolutely thrilled with the specialist and his plan of action.Betty was probably poorly in her mother’s womb, he suspects dwarfism, well certainly in her face. We have lots of options but one thing I’m certain of is she will be in fantastic, capable hands, in fact the best hands.”

She continued: “We still very much need your support with the appeal, she could possibly need several operations and I’m so relieved that he believed in us but more importantly her.

“He saw how much she embraces life and how much of a normal life she leads. He commented on how extremely healthy and well she looks.”

It was at least a five hour journey home after the consultation. Each fortnight photographs will be taken of Betty’s face to monitor how quickly she is growing and when her operations will begin.
