ANPR cameras planned for Tesco car park and 8 other new applications in Chorley & South Ribble

Check out some of the most interesting plans registered this week in Chorley and South Ribble.

Bosses at Tesco want to introduce an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera at one of their Leyland sites.

An application has been made to South Ribble Borough Council to install the system, associated ancillary works and signage at Tesco Express at 92 Leyland Lane.

The proposal involves the installation of a galvanised camera column which the ANPR camera will be mounted to, and a feeder pillar will be installed adjacent the camera column. There are 12 spaces at the site and no spaces would be lost by the installation.

Why do it?

Horizon Parking Ltd say in a planning statement: “The object of this application is to provide an ANPR system to allow management of the car park to prevent misuse and address congestion in the car park and surrounding public highway.”

Details of proposed parking time limits for the car park have not been publicly revealed, but typically if a user exceeds a time limit, they are issued with a fine sent to the address their car number plate is registered to.

Car park signage has been installed prior to the application being submitted.

A decision on the matter will be made in coming weeks by South Ribble Borough Council.
