All the buildings we lost to fires and arson in Preston in 2025
Preston has been plagued by fires and arson in recent years, with some of the city’s historic buildings left in ruins after suspicious blazes.
This year Preston has suffered fewer fires after the city council launched a dedicated Task Force to address safety concerns around empty and derelict buildings.
In collaboration with Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, the Task Force has ensured building owners take responsibility for the safety and security of their properties.
Some of these properties were important parts of Preston's heritage, including the Grade II listed St Joseph's Orphanage and 131 Church Street (formerly The Old Dog Inn). Both were seriously damaged in suspicious fires in 2024, with the Old Dog Inn and neighbouring properties having to be demolished due to the extensive damage caused.
Preston fared better in 2025, but there were still a number of destructive fires at derelict sites in the city.
