Speaking after North End’s 1-1 draw with Luton Town, Browne gave a scathing assessment of the Lilywhites’ increasingly precarious position inside the top six.

Scott Sinclair had given PNE the lead after 53 minutes, before Callum McManaman levelled for the Hatters.

“It keeps us in sixth spot for now,” Browne said. “I think someone is looking down on us, I don’t know how long it’s been since we deserved to be in there.

“I don’t know how many times I’ve said it, we haven’t deserved to be in there and the teams below us just can’t take advantage.

“We’ve got to start winning games. Ideally, you would have liked to have won today but we’ve got eight games remaining and we’ve got to win as many of those as we possibly can.

“I think still being in the play-offs is the only positive we can take really. We should be coming away with a win there, given the circumstances – it was total domination from start to finish. To not win is gutting for us.”

With ambitions of playing in the Premier League next season, Browne feels that PNE have to be putting away lower-placed sides.

He said: “It’s been a long time since we played a proper game. When you come back you really want to get that win, especially coming away to a team like Luton.

“No disrespect to them but there’s a reason they’re bottom and they’d probably just be happy to stay in the league.

“We went there today with the intention of winning and it almost feels like a loss to be honest. We dominated the game, created the better of the chances – that was their only shot on goal.

“It was a great strike to be fair but the game should be dead and buried before then. It just feels like a loss, we’re disappointed. I don’t want to disrespect them, they’ve got some good players and some good quality in their team.

“But there’s a reason that they’d be happy to just stay in this league, we’re not content with having a good season up until now and watching it fade away.

"We want to push it all the way and make that next step of getting into the play-offs.”
