Snails, cow skin and Nigerian Coke on the menu of new African restaurant set to open in Penwortham
A new African restaurant is preparing to open in the heart of Penwortham.
African Village is opening in the former Pane e Vino site in Priory Lane. The opening date has not been publicly announced, but signage is up, the menu is out online and workmen are making internal changes.
The website states that is it “poised to deliver exquisite fine dining, in an environment that brings the much awaited sensational African buzz to the city of Preston.”
Unusual dishes and drinks
The online menu features dishes including boli (grilled plantains), peppered ponmo (cow skin marinated in a pepper sauce and grilled), peppered snails, as well as several stews and rice dishes.

The drinks menu is also interesting - featuring many drinks popular in Nigeria. They include Bullet (a vodka drink), Nigerian Heineken, Orijin beer, Golberg beer and Kolaq Alagbo (herbal liquor).
Soft drinks include Nigerian Coca Cola and Fanta - varieties that have gone viral on social media for their different taste to UK or US varieties owing to the different sugar syrups used.
Locals have reacted enthusiastically online, saying it will add to the emerging food and drinks scene in the Liverpool Road area.
