Aerial ladder used in firefighters' rescue mission near Chorley

Firefighters needed to use an aerial ladder to rescue a walker who fell down an embankment in a village near Chorley.

The crews were called out to the incident on Coppice Lane, in the village of Heapey, just before 5pm yesterday.

One fire engine from Chorley and the rope rescue crew from Bamber Bridge and the aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn attended the incident.

The casualty had fallen around eight feet down the embankment and was rescued using the ropes and a basket stretcher.

The casualty was taken to hospital by the North West Area Ambulance.

Firefighters were at the scene for an hour.
