1. Duck race
Get ready for a quacking time on the early May Bank Holiday, as the annual Duck Race at WWT Martin Mere makes a spectacular return. And for the first time ever, it’s expanding into a full weekend of fun. Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the centre in Fish Lane, Burscough, as hundreds of brightly coloured rubber ducks take to the water, racing head-to-head in a thrilling bid for first place. This year’s races will take place across three days: May 2 and 3 at 2:00pm Bank Holiday Monday, May 4 at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm. | Martin Mere

2. Preston Weekender
The Preston Weekender will return to the historic Flag Market on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3. On Saturday, May 2, iconic dance brand Cream will take over the Flag Market with a full production show co-headlined by Paul Oakenfold and Joel Corry. The line-up will also feature Cream resident Kola plus local support. Sunday is Family Day. The world's only "ABBA endorsed" performers Björn Again will be headlining on the main stage in the afternoon, and you should come prepared to be genuinely amazed as magician Harry Moulding, the winner of last year's Britain's Got Talent and a Royal Variety Performance star, leaves you stunned and doubting your own eyes. | Preston Weekender 2026
