23 vehicles seized by police in major Blackburn crackdown on unsafe and abandoned cars

A major operation targeting unroadworthy and abandoned vehicles across the outskirts of Blackburn town centre has resulted in the seizure of 23 cars in a single day.
Police carried out the enforcement action on Wednesday as part of Operation Road Ready Revamp, a push to improve safety, accessibility and the general environment in local neighbourhoods.
Officers said the vehicles had been causing problems for residents and road users, creating obstructions, posing potential safety risks and contributing to environmental hazards.

Working alongside the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and AAA Road Rescue, officers inspected each vehicle and processed them in line with legal requirements.
Owners were identified wherever possible, with enforcement action taken where appropriate.
The DVSA seized 18 vehicles for having no tax while being used on the highway.
Police removed a further five vehicles judged to be abandoned or dangerously unroadworthy.
One additional vehicle was seized on suspicion of being stolen after it was found displaying different registration plates.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “If you are aware of abandoned or unsafe vehicles in your area, please report them through 101 or online through the Lancashire Constabulary website.
“Together we can keep our community safe, tidy and welcoming for everyone.”
