When eating out, customers want confidence that the café, restaurant or takeaway they choose is clean, well run and meets food safety standards.
The Food Standards Agency inspects food-serving businesses and awards ratings on a scale from zero to five.
These are based on hygiene standards, the condition of buildings and facilities, and how well businesses manage and record food safety practices.
