Baxi, the household name for heating, is celebrating its 160th year.
Founder Richard Baxendale opened the doors to his new foundry in Chorley in 1866. By 1955, Baxi became a household name for heating. The Bermuda, Baxi’s most famous gas-fired boiler was launched in 1966, the same year in which Baxi celebrated 100 years in business.
During the 1980’s Baxi sold to its workforce becoming the UK’s largest employee partnership of its kind. It has since merged to become part of the BDR Thermea Group.
The company - which was headquartered in Brownedge Road, Bamber Bridge, until 2001 - still has a presence in the area, with its site in Club Street leading the way on efficiency.
