So, from music and sports to food and beaches, we take a look at all the reasons why the Red Rose of Lancashire is undoubtedly better than the White Rose of Yorkshire...
9. The Beatles
8. Music Sure, Sheffield has a few good bands, but Lancashire has the greatest band of all time: technically speaking, The Beatles are from Lancashire as Liverpool didn’t become Merseyside until 1974 by which time The Beatles had been disbanded for four years. Oasis members Noel and Liam Gallagher were also born in Lancashire, while we can also claim Rick Astley, Jamiroquai, Alfie Boe, Chumbawamba, Joe Anderson from Yes, Diana Vickers, The Stiffs, and Kevin Simm and Jessica Taylor from Liberty X. 9. Comedians We’re well-known for our jovial nature and friendly penchant for the odd bit of verbal badinage in Lancashire, whereas our neighbours from across the Pennies are famous for their somewhat more dour outlook on life. Which explains why we’ve got Lee Mack, Jon Richardson, Eric Morecambe, Steve Coogan, Peter Kay, John Culshaw, John Bishop, Bobby Ball, Ken Dodd, Les Dawson, and Victoria Wood. Photo: Kelvin Stuttard

10. Actors and other media personalities This is where Lancashire really comes to the fore: Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park of Preston is joined by The League of Gentlemen’s Steve Pemberton of Blackburn and Sir Ian McKellen of Burnley. Lovejoy actor Ian McShane of Blackburn is also on the list alongside Blackpool’s Zoe Ball, Jenna Coleman, and David Thewlis, while Brassic creator hails from Chorley. 12. The Royal Family in 2016
11. The Royals love it here During Lord Shuttleworth’s time as Chairman of the Duchy of Lancaster, which is a vast and sprawling estate of castles, countryside estates, a famed countryside pub, a stretch of motorway, and a portion of Lancastrian shoreline belonging to the British sovereign, he claims that he often heard the late Queen Elizabeth II remarking on what a wonderful part of the world Lancashire was and how she believed she could happily live in the area. Seems to us like Her Majesty certainly had that right. Photo: Dominic Lipinski-WPA Pool/Getty Images)
