Plan for 130 new homes gets outline approval in Garstang

Wyre Council’s planning committee agreed the outline application by Hollins Strategic Land for 130 new homes on land at Kepple Lane.

The approval is subject to the developer signing a 106 agreement to pay £200,000 to the council for highways development and £264,622 towards education.

Coun Tom Balmain, who represents Garstang on Wyre Council, told the committee he believed the application should be thrown out.

Nineteen letters of objection were received. Later he said: “There are too many houses being proposed for Garstang. An excessive amount of plans have come forward in the last few years.

“No account has been taken of the actual infrastructure, for example with regard to doctors surgeries which are already bursting to capacity now.

“I am also against any further development unless developers consider elderly people.

“They should be building more bungalows for the elderly who want to downsize and then are able to free up their homes for families.”

But a report by planning officers said that, despite the objections raised, the development complies with national planning policy and should be approved.
