This charming man

Preston was gridlocked because the motorway was closed for resurfacing.

Michael and I had planned to go to the pub after work, so after an hour and 10 minutes to get home we finally got ready and set about finding a new place for a drink.

We headed to Hoghton and went to the Old Oak Inn in Hoghton Road, we had been once before, but it was closed.

Now this charming pub is open again and under new management.

I don’t know what it was like before because I never went so I’m afraid I can’t 
compare, but I can say I was very impressed.

There’s plenty of 
parking and it is a great 
location – popular with walkers, families and couples.

It was around 7pm when we got there and there was a group of tea-time drinkers in one section of the pub, in the area with the TVs, gambling machine and pool table, and a couple of other people in the other room, which I understand will be the dining area when they start serving food.

One thing that stood out me was the smartness and politeness of the man behind the bar; he was very helpful, friendly and gave the place a great first impression.

I had a Malibu and coke and Michael had a bottle of Budweiser.

We had enquired if they served food because we were both pretty hungry, and 
although they don’t yet they are planning on doing, which I hope would be another reason to go back.

We went and sat in the bigger room on a comfy sofa, and I’ll be honest when I sat down I didn’t want to get up.

The lovely bar man brought us over a bowl of different nuts – we must have looked really hungry, but I thought this was a really nice touch. Inside, the Old Oak Inn is clean, tidy and spacious and really cosy.

They sell Strongbow, Stella, Boddingtons, Carlsberg, Carling, Becks, Guinness Extra Cold, John Smiths and the cask ale one our visit was 
Lancaster Straw.

I imagine in a little village like Hoghton this was a 
popular place when it was open before and I bet it soon will be again.
