The perfect bank holiday sun trap

So in an attempt to make the most of a Monday off work we headed out for a walk. For perhaps the third time this year I got my trainers on and my branded sports top and off we went. And I think we did pretty well, we walked from Bamber Bridge to Avenham Park and back, I have to admit it was a nice walk, it was glorious weather and my trainers didn’t rub. But the best bit was the bit in the middle – the pub.

I’ve probably written enough for you to guess that we went to The Continental in South Meadow Lane.

It was only about midday when we got there and it was already packed out.

It is a great pub with a huge selection of cask ales and a selection of unusual bottled beers.

There was a bit of a queue for the bar and the staff were busy setting up tables for what looked like big lunch time bookings.

Once we had been served we went into the huge garden at the back to have a rest in the sunshine.

Looking from the outside you wouldn’t think the pub is as big as it is. It’s very modern and trendy and is also well kept. At the back there’s a conservatory as well as another separate room at the front.

We managed to grab a free table in the beer garden. There were lots of people of all different ages making the most of this great pub. There were families with young children, groups enjoying what looked like delicious food and couples tucking into cake with their drinks, some hot some cold. On our visit some of the many drinks they had available on cask included Old Growler and White Witch. They also sell Guinness, Heineken, Strongbow, Kronenberg, and several guest bottled beers.

I don’t know if it is always this busy on a Bank Holiday Monday and it is possible that the numbers may have been boosted by a lovely vintage fair taking place on the land beyond the beer garden.

One thing I do know is once I had sat down to soak up the sun and soak in the atmosphere I didn’t want to walk home I wanted to stay in this beautiful oasis and make the most of the last bank holiday.
