Tuck in: North West Picture Desk assisitant Mark Borland tucks into fish and chips from Mister Eaters on Longridge Road, Preston

The daily lunchtime fayre of boring sandwiches was becoming tedious, and this lunchtime I decided to opt for the good old English favourite treat of fish and chips from Mr Eater’s on Longridge Road in Ribbleton, Preston. A lack of breakfast in the morning made the lovely smell in the shop even more tempting.

After a good browse of the menu I decided on a large fish with a large chips.

On arrival back into the office I opened the ample tray and tucked into the pipping hot food, conscious of the envious looks from my fellow office workers.

The fish was enormous and absolutely delicious with its crisp golden melt-in-the-mouth batter, and the chips being not over cooked or over-greasy like some I’ve tried over the years.

The delicious smell had now proved impossible to hide.

I decided to give up before a lynch-mob was organised.

The size of the portion was so generous I was happy to share, making me the most popular employee of the day.

With the lesson that my eyes were in fact bigger than my belly fully learned, I promised myself a return visit, but maybe next time I’ll just stick to a regular size fish and chips instead.
