New smash burger chain Phat Buns to open in Preston after MB fried chicken shuts after 6 months in city centre
A new smash burger chain will open its doors in Preston.
Phat Buns has 18 franchise stores across the UK and will open a new branch in the city’s Miller Arcade, where MB Chicken was located before it’s sudden closure last month.

The shutters came down on MB Chicken just six months after the restaurant and takeaway opened in May.
But the Miller Arcade unit in Church Street won’t be empty for long, with Phat Buns expected to open early in the new year, though an exact date has not been confirmed at this stage.

What do we know about Phat Buns?
Menu items include smash burgers, loaded fries, wings and tenders, shakes and hot dogs, as well as breakfast muffins and desserts.
It’s described as a ‘fast-casual option’ with dine-in and takeaway options. Phat Buns is fully halal-certified, meaning all their beef and chicken products are prepared and served according to halal requirements.
The fast-food company has stores up and down the country, the nearest in Liverpool, as well as branches in Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Nottingham and Leicester.

Marketing director Ibraheem Yusuf said: "Our beef is freshly ground on-site, giving us some of the freshest smash burgers around. But we don’t just stop at beef...
“Our menu includes a full Nashville chicken range, loaded hot dogs, fries, beef brisket burgers, and our 12-hour slow-cooked rib sandwich that people travel for.
“What sets us apart is our DIY Burger Range – customers can build their burger just the way they like it, from bun to toppings.
"We’re proud to be a fully halal brand, not just in sourcing, but in preparation too. Every store maintains strict cleanliness standards, ensuring our food is made in an environment our customers can trust.”
