The dreaded lurgy has hit the Smith household this week. With a housebound husband and a sniffly son, I seem to have been the only one to have escaped the horrid bug that has struck down the male members of my household. So without a mere mention of man-flu, I did what every loving wife and mother would. I ordered a curry.

Sylhet Fusion is based in Bristol Avenue, Farington, and offers free delivery on orders over £10. They also accept credit and debit cards.

The menu offers all the usual classics and a tandoori selection, as well as a selection of Sylhet Fusion favourites and a number of balti and retro dishes. We opted for the set meal for two, which was plenty to feed two adults and a hungry child.

For £16.90 we got poppadoms and chutney, onion bhaji, seekh kebab, pilau rice, a naan bread, bombay aloo and two curries – one chicken and one lamb. We chose the chicken tikka masala over the korma and the lamb balti over the bhuna, and asked to swap the bombay aloo for saag aloo – spinach potatoes which are a favourite in our house.

Swapping the potato dishes was no problem but when the order arrived we had been sent the lamb bhuna rather than the balti.

This wasn’t a deal breaker, as the sauces were tasty and delicately blended, but the meat was a bit of a let-down.

The tikka masala was sparse on the chicken and the lamb varied in texture from succulent to tough throughout the dish.

The saag aloo was lovely and we had no complaints about the rice, but the naan bread was a real disappointment, as it was unevenly cooked and doughy. The onion bhajis were a good size and the seekh kebab suitably spicy.

Delivery was swift – our order arrived in just over half an hour, and the service was friendly.
