A Leyland bar has closed suddenly after the landlord seized the premises.

The owners of The Ship in Towngate - formerly Fat Sam’s and Rum Jacks - have been locked out and barred from entering their own bar after the landlord took enforcement action on June 10.

Debt collector Christopher Walker, of Final Debt Recovery Ltd, has been appointed to recover what is owed.

“Despite previous requests and demands, the arrears remain unpaid,” states the notice. The amount owed is not declared, but the notice says “substantial sums remain outstanding”.

The Ship has not updated its Facebook page since May 15. The last post promoted an ABBA Disco Brunch and said “a huge new chapter for The Ship starts this weekend and we can’t wait to celebrate with you all.”

The legal notice attached to the premises suggests the bar might have been sublet without the approval of the landlord.

It states: “The Landlord has reason to believe that there may have been changes to the business structure, trading style, legal entity and/or persons occupying or controlling the premises.”

The Ship couldn’t be reached for comment.
