Angelic upstart offers a little slice of heaven

Feeling under the weather? Google your symptoms and you’ll soon convince yourself you only have weeks to live.

Similarly, eating establishments can do or die at the hands of the web.

When visiting unknown eating territory, I’m now in the habit of checking online reviews and hygiene ratings.

My online research has led to a number of food outlets I will probably never grace with my presence, but I’ve also 
unearthed some amazing 
discoveries.

With Angels regularly occupying the number one Preston restaurant spot on Tripadvisor, hubby and I 
decided to make a Sunday 
afternoon visit.

The countryside 
restaurant on the Longridge to Ribchester road doesn’t look anything flash from its 
exterior.

But as soon as you enter, the decadent, luxurious and slightly wacky décor makes it clear you’re in for an out of this world experience.

With its extravagant 
chandeliers, sumptuous 
velvet settees, white baby grand piano and sparkly bar, it’s quirky yet tasteful.

Angels offers a three-course Sunday menu at £22.90 for three courses, which 
represents amazing value.

Bread rolls and toilets are two important factors when judging a restaurant.

Angels scored top marks for its fresh, warm, homemade bread in varieties including a delicious cinnamon and raison.

A quick visit to the unisex toilets revealed they were just as stunning and elaborate as the rest of the décor.

The food was also imaginative, creative, beautifully presented and above all, tasted divine.

My starter of king scallops for a £3 supplement was like a work of art. The scallops were perfectly cooked on a bed of celeriac puree with apple and parsnip crisps. Keith’s cannelloni crepes grilled with Parmesan were tucked into with gusto and described as incredibly tasty..

Main courses were wild fillet of bass with spinach and a tomato and red pepper bisque for me and slow braised blade with Yorkshire pudding and chive oil potatoes for Keith.

My fish was perfectly moist on the inside and crisp on the outside and was a delightful combination of flavours.

Keith’s beef was so tender it barely needed a knife and was full of flavour.

Our mains were accompanied by vegetables and roast potatoes which looked and tasted great.

The desserts were sublime. My passion fruit panna cotta was melt in the mouth while every trace of Keith’s chocolate brownie with melted chocolate and peppermint ice cream was scraped clean off the plate.

Top tasting quality food for the price, attentive and friendly service and a wonderful 
ambiance.

With it’s fifth birthday approaching, Angels must be doing everything right.

A true piece of heaven.
