It's not everyone that gets an audience with the Pope, let alone perform a clog dance for him. But Sally Ann Lawless, from Poulton, did just that, as part of her Duke of Edinburgh gold award. She was one of several dancers who went to the Pope's summer residence - Castel Gandolfo - to present a programme of traditional dances

Play scheme organisers got more than they bargained for in an effort to help parents during school holidays. Nearly 100 excited youngsters turned up on the first day of the week-long, free venture at Lancashire Polytechnic. The children, aged between five and 14, were kept busy at the huge "creche" with a variety of activities
