Students from a Preston college put on their walking boots for a marathon hike. About 100 walkers set off on the grueling walk from Fulwood to Chipping. They were taking part in Newman Collage Third World Group's sponsored walk. The 11 and a half mile trek took them from the Black Bull pub in Fulwood to Chipping village hall

The newest recruits to a town's successful Morris Dancing troupe are proving they are winners. For the newly-formed Leyland Legionnaires tinies dancing team have returned triumphant from their first public competition. The youngsters, all aged between six and 11 years, began dancing together last December. Only four of them had danced before. And at the Mossbrook competition they danced away with third prize and a medal each

George Best turned up... and so did over 1,000 eager fans who wanted to see the former soccer wizard in action again. And Best treated them to an unforgettable afternoon as he turned on the old style in a special fund raising match at Lytham. Best was in a Lytham FC Chairman's XI who took on the present Lytham FC side to raise money for ground improvements at Ballam Road. Delighted youngsters queue up for Best's autograph
