As a city that once prided itself on having a pub for every day of the year – the speed with which they are closing down you’d be lucky to find a pub for every month of the year these days. And this trend is felt deeply with the number of pre- and post-match pubs where avid Preston North End supporters would gather – pumped full of hope for the game to come, then filled with jubilation after a win, or drowned their sorrows following a sore loss. 5. PNE matchday pubs
Sumners was a firm favourite amongst Preston North End fans and was always packed to the rafters on matchdays. But in 2018, not long after being sold by the Greene King, Sumners was mysteriously demolished - before such a order granting the act was given! Plans are afoot to turn the plot into housing. The pub was originally built in 1985 to replace the old Sumners Hotel which stood adjacent to the where the present building once stood and was also demolished, this time as part of a road widening scheme Photo: Archive
