They were busy, thriving times as these photos from the decade show. And also a time of great change, with many buildings being demolished and lost forever. But some of the places pictured here can still be seen in all their glory today. If you have any pictures of Preston in times gone by we would like to feature them on our website. This was the scene of Cottam Hall Brickworks in Ingol, around 1986. The area is now the site of a housing estate, still in the process of being built. What lovely views they will have of the canal which sits proud at the front of the picture

This picture shows off some of the stunning architecture which can still be found on the streets of Preston. It is the corner of Fishergate and Glovers Court, taken in 1985. Of course the shop, Stones, has long gone, evidenced by the 'closing down' sale seen in the photo

If you glanced out of the window of this bus today you would be hard pressed to recognise the area at all. This is an inbound Ribble bus passing the Greyhound Hotel along London Road in 1985

This picture shows the junction of Waterloo Road and Tulketh Brow, in Ashton, Preston in 1984. Located due west of Maudland Viaduct is this bridge that carries the Fylde coast railway line over Waterloo Road. Known for generations as 'the danger bridge'. The word 'Danger' was once painted in bold yellow letters on both sides of the bridge to warn traffic of the height restriction. Over the years several buses and lorries came to grief attempting to pass below the structure. The bridge has since been re-built easing the overhead restriction from 11' 9'' to 14' 3'' and now features a roundabout on Tulketh Brow to help with the traffic passing to and from the city centre.
