There was 24 hours of non-stop music and a few bleary eyes in Kirkham as more than 200 people took part in a sponsored music marathon to raise money for Children in Need and Cancer Research. The close secret of two Preston schoolchildren was let out of the bag with the news of their art competition win. Children's book illustrator Shirley Hughes, responsible for the drawings in the Frances Hodgeson Burnett book, The Secret Garden, asked for children to draw their own secret garden and what they would like to have in it.
