Preston's new Shankly Hotel on a high as work resumes

Work has resumed on converting Preston’s former head Post Office into a luxury 66-room Shankly Hotel.

A giant 40-metre crane has been brought in to help construct a two-storey extension on the building’s flat roof.

The return of construction workers to the Grade II Listed building has eased fears about the future of the project which appeared to have stalled months ago when some parts of the Signature Living Group hit financial problems.

There is no news when the £15m hotel will open. It is already more than two years behind schedule - it was due to be finished in Spring 2018.

It is four years since Preston Council sold the Post Office - built in 1903 - to the Signature Living Group.

Three other hotels in the group have hit cash problems, but the company has said the remainder of the business is unaffected.
