Women's health facility planned for house in this Preston suburb
A single room would be repurposed under the plans.
Plans have been revealed to create a private health facility in suburban Preston which will specialise in the menopause and women’s “wellness” services.
An application has been lodged to convert part of an existing residential property – Maxy House, on Sandy Lane in Cottam – where the venture would be based.
A proposal submitted to Preston City Council reveals that a single room within the dwelling would be used as a consultation room and office. A seating area would also be provided within the hallway.

According to the planning application – by an applicant identified as Dr. P Carr – the “vast majority of the…business is ‘web based’, including virtual appointments”.
However, the blueprint adds: “Some patients will require face-to-face appointments or treatment, which will be booked by appointment several days in advance on an infrequent [basis] – unlike a more traditional GP practice with multiple short appointments per day.
“The proposed practice will provide private consultations, undertaken on-site by the applicant, with a particular emphasis on menopause, wellness and women’s health services. Face-to-face appointments will only be available on a pre-booked basis, with consultations typically lasting around 60 minutes.”
For that reason, the application contends, only “a small number of patients are expected to attend the property each day, with appointments staggered throughout …and very low footfall generated as a result of the proposals”.
An additional parking space to the two that already exist at the site would be created in a hardstanding area to the north of the property.
No additional staff would be employed and there would be no changes to the exterior of the building.
“Overall, the proposal represents an appropriate small-scale home-based business in a sustainable location, making efficient use of the existing building while supporting local economic activity and flexible working,” the application concludes.
