Robbie Willliams fan Kay Lovelady couldn't believe her eyes when the singing superstar was beamed into her living room for a 30 minute web chat.

Solicitor Kay, who has lost more than five stone since January, thought she was about to speak to other Weight Watchers members about her success and experience during lockdown, but was actually being set up to speak to brand ambassador Robbie.

"I knew nothing about it at all", said the 48 -year-old.

"His face suddenly appeared on screen and a million thoughts went through my mind.

"I recognised him straight away, but I thought it was a wind-up.

"I asked 'Is this real?' and he replied saying 'hello gorgeous, yes it's real'."

She added: "He was the loveliest guy, he was amazing. I spent 30 minutes talking to him about his life and his healthy lifestyle. You can tell by the way he was talking that he's really healthy and happy.

"It was so easy to talk to him. I'm a big Robbie fan anyway, so I made the most of it.

"I told him that I'd had tickets to see him in concert once but had to cancel because the date was rearranged to my son's first day of school.

"He laughed and said he totally understood, that he's got kids too and would have done the same thing.

"He's just a normal person, and he's having to fit exercise and healthy eating in around his work life, just like the rest of us."

Both Kay and Robbie have found a love of walking during lockdown, with the star inspiring Kay to up her usual 10,000 steps a day to 15,000.

She said: "It's not a chore at all, I enjoy doing it, it helps me clear my mind."

Kay, who has a son and two step-daughters, said she had tried dieting on and off for several years, but had never stuck at anything until this year.

She said: "I started in January and by February, my resolve was being tested. Then lockdown came and it really changed the way I thought about things.

"In the past, my focus has always been on the scales, but when I started reading about how weightier people were being hit harder by Covid-19, I did a total side-shift.

"It became about taking personal responsibility. It became about leading a healthy life rather than dieting.

"I want to make sure I'm here for my children and any future grandchildren."

A self-confessed gymophobe, Kay visited the NHS website and saw recommendations for 10,000 steps a day, as well as hearing about Captain Sir Tom Moore's walking achievements in his garden.

She set about pacing up and down her 35-step garden in West Paddock, Leyland, before work and between meetings, talking her dogs to Worden Park and on a circular route around Leyland in the evenings.

She said: "I feel so much better, the best I've ever felt. And because at first we weren't allowed to travel far from our homes, my husband and I have managed to find some great places nearby.

"Whereas before we'd always tend to got ot the Lake District, now we're going to the Ribble Valley on the Tolkein Trail, or to Jumbles Country Park."

She has also overhauled her diet, swapping sugary cereals for Weetabix and fruit, sandwiches, jacket potatoes for lunch instead of crisps and chocolate bars, and home-cooked meals such as turkey burgers and sweet potatoes and salad for her evening meal instead of microwaves meals and takeaways.

She added: "It's easier working from home, being able to cook things from scratch. Now that the weather has turned and the nights are darker, it's definitely not as appealing to go out and walk as it was in the summer, but I'll just get my raincoat on. I'm definitely continuing because I feel so much better. Everything is noticeably better - my hair, my skin. Even my hairdresser has commented."

Kay has credited her WW leader, Kim Robinson for supporting her weight loss, and it was Kim who put her forward for the Robbie call.

She said: "I put Kay forward for the surprise as during lockdown she decided to use the time for her and to benefit her wellbeing.

"The walking of 10,000 steps every day was a great goal that helped with her mental health and along with the WW plan she lost over two stone during lockdown.

"Kay was an inspiration to others on the WW virtual workshops that ww run on Zoom. I am so proud of Kay and know the call with Robbie Williams has been a huge highlight."
