And the pharmacy-run site joined the other five large-scale vaccination centres in Blackburn, Blackpool, Kendal, Lancaster and Ulverston, along with the 11 hospital hubs and 36 GP-led sites as part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Covid-19 vaccination programme.

In a recent letter sent to patients, Michael Ball, superintendent pharmacist and owner said: “Sign up and pick up your medicines from our new, secure collection machine at any time, day or night.

"It is safely positioned off the road and fully lit. It is a perfect service if you want to collect outside of our opening hours or if you need to just drop by to pick up your medicines.”

Preston Liberal Democrat Coun Phoneix Adair said: "It's interesting to hear that Broadway Pharmacy is introducing a 24-hour, 7 day a week prescription collection service that is available for those who can’t collect during business hours.

"I can understand some may have concerns over the security of prescriptions being in a machine when the pharmacy is closed. This is an opt-in service and I hope that Broadway Pharmacy has taken the necessary measures to secure the prescriptions.

"I am sure many people who finish work late would appreciate this service and I hope that it is a success and could see similar schemes happening elsewhere in Preston."
