The Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity used money from the NHS Charities Together fund, which topped £130m thanks to the likes of centenarian fundraiser Colonel Tom Moore, to pay for the ‘Hydration Hero’ bottles.

They will be handed out to medics in all departments at Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, and the Preston Business Centre.

Well-being champ Alison Oliver welcomed the bottles for staff, who she said are “working long shifts, wearing PPE, and in recent spells of hot weather are at greater risk of becoming dehydrated.”

Colonel Moore, a former Army officer, captured the nation’s hearts and opened wallets up and down the UK by walking 100 laps of his garden in the run-up to his 100th birthday.

As well as being promoted from his previous rank of captain, Colonel Moore was also given an RAF flypast of Second World War planes and sent more than 150,000 birthday cards.
