Blackpool nurse "must be supervised at all times" and not left alone with patients after allegations

A Blackpool nurse has been placed under interim conditions by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) following a hearing held last month.

Rupam Thakur, a registered adult nurse who joined the nursing register in July 2024, was the subject of an interim order hearing on Wednesday, January 28.

The NMC’s Investigating Committee imposed an interim conditions of practice order for a period of 18 months while fitness to practise proceedings continue.

Under the order, Mrs Thakur must limit her nursing work to a single substantive employer and is not allowed to undertake agency or bank work.

She must not be the sole nurse on any shift and is required to work under the supervision of another registered nurse at all times.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, the NHS trust responsible for Blackpool Victoria Hospital, said Mrs Thakur was not one of its employees and has never worked for the Trust. It’s not clear which North West health service employed Mrs Thakur.

The conditions also place specific restrictions on medication management, meaning Mrs Thakur must be directly supervised when administering or managing medication until she is assessed as competent to do so independently.

She is required to attend fortnightly meetings with her line manager or supervisor and provide progress reports to the NMC ahead of any review hearings.

The NMC said its case examiners have yet to decide whether there is a case to answer in relation to the allegations.

The interim order will be reviewed every six months and may be varied, revoked, or replaced with a suspension depending on the progress of the case.
