The grounds and green spaces at Edge Hill University have been officially declared among the most beautiful in the land - after winning a Green Flag Award for their beauty and benefit to the environment.

This is the ninth time the West Lancs institution has scooped the accolade and and bosses say that despite the problems caused by Covid-19 restrictions, the facilities management team worked in all weathers and throughout the pandemic to maintain the campus grounds to the highest standard.

Grounds Manager Neil Toner said: "It’s all about pride. The whole FM team take immense pride in creating spaces where people can take a few minutes out of their day to sit and relax in a stunning natural environment. I’d like to thank every member of staff for their contribution to winning this award."

Neil added: "I think everyone has always known that getting out into nature is vital for good mental health, but this has never been more important during the events of 2020.

"It’s great to be able to give students and staff a safe outdoor space for them to explore, get some exercise or just sit and feed the ducks.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for their management across the United Kingdom and around the world.
