Getting dirty is definitely top priority at when it is time for messy play, especially for youngsters at one South Ribble nursery.

When staff at the Elizabeth Saunders Nursery School, in New Longton, near Preston, decided to teach their young charges about different religious feast, they decided on a practical lesson with a difference.

So when the pre-schoolers at the Saunders Lane facility were learning about the Indian Festival of Colour, also known as Holi, they took the ethos of learning through play seriously.

The festival is a free-for-all festival of colours where people smear each other with paint and drench each other.
