Tim Henman unveils Stonyhurst's new tennis centre
Former British tennis ace Tim Henman was on hand to unveil a school's new tennis centre.
The four-time Wimbledon semi-finalist opened the new tennis dome facility at Stonyhurst College, near Clitheroe.
The state-of-the-art facilities will be enjoyed by pupils at the school, but are also available for community use.
Former British No.1 Tim joined staff and pupils at the historic college to officially open the brand new world-class sports facility.
The project, started during the summer of 2016, features two Grand Slam size indoor courts with flood lighting and heating.
The investment is part of Stonyhurst’s vision to take its renowned Tennis Programme to a whole new level and achieve Lawn Tennis Association Clubmark Plus Accreditation.
Ian Murphy, headteacher of Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall, said: “Tim is a huge advocate for investment in grass roots tennis and we couldn’t wait to show him this fantastic facility.
“The dome will provide all pupils and the wider school community with a whole new world of tennis-related opportunities, supported by professional coaching.”
Stonyhurst has two professional tennis coaches working with the school community – J.J. Garcia Gomez and Lauren Banks.
The college also has 10 existing outdoor courts.
Mr Murphy added: “The dome represents a huge and significant leap in terms of what we can offer here at Stonyhurst.
“It is another proud day for the college.”
