Students are loving county universities

The county’s higher education institutions have fared well in this year’s Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey.

However, Edge Hill came out best in the North West and within the top-20 UK 
institutions

The Ormskirk institution has risen 12 places to take 11th position overall, beating top universities such as Lancaster, which was 21st overall, 
St Andrews and Nottingham.

Edge Hill was ranked in the top two nationally for campus security and safety, in the top five for student accommodation, and in the top eight in the country for both facilities and student welfare.

It was also the top diversified (non-specialist) post-1992 university in the survey.

Edge Hill vice chancellor John Cater said: “Edge Hill is increasingly being ranked amongst the very best universities in the United Kingdom for students, and I am delighted to see this recognition being reflected and reinforced by the Times Higher Education’s substantial analysis.

“Following on from our current short-listing as the What Uni? University of the Year and five other nominations, including for employability, we have a lot to be proud of, and we are committed to further strengthen our growing recognition in the months and years ahead.”

Lancaster was ranked second for accommodation while Edge Hill was fifth and Lancaster made fourth place for security.

The Preston-based University of Central Lancashire was joint 51st.

The results are based on the responses of more than 15,000 undergraduates from 122 universities, rating their institution across 21 different indicators. The survey was appended to YouthSight’s Student Omnibus Surveys and all respondents were from YouthSight’s student panel.
