An inner city school is in the running for another major accolade.

Eldon Primary in Preston has already proved a class act by scooping a host of top awards over the past few years.

Now the Plungington school has made the prestigious TES Awards shortlist - putting it in the frame to be named the best primary in the country.

The community school’s headteacher Azra Butt is no stranger to collecting awards as staff and pupils have seen the school race up the ladder of success.

She said:“Everyone at Eldon is absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for the TES Primary School of the Year Award 2018.

“Eldon’s success story has reached even greater heights and we are now in the running to be named best in the country.

Having recently been awarded the ‘Outstanding’ judgement by Ofsted and scooping the ‘Most Inspirational Primary School’ at the Educate awards, we have everything crossed to achieve this prestigious national award.”

The proud headteacher added: “We can’t wait for the award ceremony which is taking place in London on June 22.”

Mrs Butt said: “It is tremendous that everyone can see and gets to hear about the inspirational learning which enables our diverse community to achieve so very well.

“It’s brilliant to be acknowledged and we are feeling on top of the world, yet again.”

As an added bonus the team from the school has also been invited to celebrate at the Terrace Pavilion at the House of Commons where they will be treated to afternoon tea with Preston’s MP Mark Hendrick.
