Principal Lis Smith confirmed the college-wide 'lockdown' in a video statement to staff and students on Wednesday (October 14).
She said the short break in on-campus teaching is being implemented as Preston's second-wave of the pandemic reaches a "critical point".

Principal Smith added that the campus lockdown will "allow Preston’s College to continue managing the global pandemic effectively and positively" by reducing the need for travel to college, minimising pressure on transport networks and minimising social interactions.
She said: "As the global pandemic continues to cause uncertainty, at Preston’s College we are doing all that we can to keep learners and staff as safe as possible in these challenging times.
"To date, we are pleased to be able to say that our safety measures have allowed us to do just this, with positive impact.

"What we're doing is like a circuit breaker and it is still a learning week, but all learning will be done online.
"This means that all learners, regardless of their chosen course or level, will be required to undertake lessons remotely for the duration of this week, before moving into the half-term break.
"During this time, the college campus will be closed to all, with the exception of a small amount of agreed provision that will continue due to external factors."
